This is a work by one of Japan’s greatest anime directors, Satoshi Kon.
He was both a manga artist and an animator, and if I had to sum up his work in one phrase, it would be: “the fusion of reality and imagination.”
His realistic, almost hard-edged characters blend beautifully with surreal worlds of imagination, creating something truly unlike anything else.
It’s a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that shows what animation can really do.
Sadly, Satoshi Kon passed away in 2010.
